Lisa Whittaker’s journey with stained and fused glass may have started recently, but her appreciation for the craft goes back much further. Growing up surrounded by artists and craftspeople working in glass, Lisa developed a deep appreciation for the creativity, skill, and craftsmanship behind this art form. After a long break from making art, a leaded glass crash course brought her back — and she hasn’t looked back since.

Today, Lisa works across leaded glass, copper foil, and glass fusing, with fusing quickly becoming her favourite. She loves the endless creative possibilities it offers, particularly its ability to transform everyday objects into functional works of art. A plate or bowl can become something completely unexpected, inviting us to appreciate the beauty of shape, form, pattern, and colour in our everyday lives.

As a teacher, Lisa believes that understanding the technical side of glass fusing opens the door to almost limitless creativity. Her classes are welcoming to all skill levels and encourage students to experiment, try something new, and develop their own creative voice.

 

For Lisa, learning glass art is as much about the process of discovering what’s possible as it is about the finished piece.
